Poem for my “Baby Girl”
From: Muti and your Mayonaka Family

Baby girl, my sweet little “child”...
Every night when I head to sleep,
Our last conversation lingers in my head
All night long.

Sweetheart, do you realize,
That your pain is our pain?
I know what you think…
You think you’re a burden
To your father and I
And the rest of our Ohana.

Is that why you distance yourself from us?

My dear daughter,
I hope you realize…

When you cry, we can feel your sorrow,
And when you’re frightened, we share your fears,
And when you try to be aloof, we feel excluded,
And when you feel despair, we feel helpless as well…

Your emotions really matter to us,
Despite the fact that you think that it’s a waste
To burden the Ohana with such things.

Baby girl, my sweetheart,
I want you to believe.
Believe that you’re special.
Believe that you’re extraordinary in a good way.
Believe that you’re truly important.
Believe that we ALL love you.
Believe that we all yearn for your happiness.

Your real family may have let you live alone,
But here, in our Ohana,
We’re supposed to be close.

That is why:
When you're hurt, I want to kiss it better.
When you’re sick, I want to be right there by your side.
When you’re sad, I want to give you a hug.
When you’re laughing, I want to laugh with you.
When you feel depression, I want to stay with you.
When you feel alone, I want to keep you company.
When you feel guilty, I want to hear your problems.

After all,
That’s what an Ohana is right?
We’re a family too,
And in an Ohana, no one gets left behind.

My little girl, I know that you blame yourself.
But that’s not what we want.
That’s not what your father, I,
Or any of the other family members want.

I want you to know, Tochter,
That I feel your emotions too,
So I want your happiness above all.

I want you to smile.
I want you to laugh.
I want you to trust us.
I want you to hug us.
I want you to talk to us.
I want you to visit us.
I want you to feel safe.
I want you to live.
I want you to feel loved by us.

That’s what I ask from you,
Baby daughter.
It’s what we all ask for.
Please believe us when we say that.

Believe us when we give you tough love.
Believe us when we assure you of things.
Believe us when we say you’re not a burden.
Believe us when we say we care.
Believe us when we say we love you.

BECAUSE WE DO.

My little Tochter,
All of us love you.
Please believe us.
We want you to be safe and happy,
Now and forever.
This is something I wrote for my Tochter ("daughter") in our cosplay group.

It may seem sappy,
But all of it is true Tochter.
EVERY. LAST. WORD OF IT.

For my readers:
Please give my Tochter some words of love,
She does need some right now.
